Functional benefits

Why roo
earns its place.

Kangaroo is one of the most nutrient-dense proteins available — lean, iron-rich, and almost unheard of in commercial dog diets. That last part is the point: if your dog has never been exposed to a protein, their immune system can't flag it as an allergen.

01 — True novel protein

Built for elimination diets.

Most food allergies are reactions to proteins a dog has eaten repeatedly — chicken, beef, lamb, dairy. Kangaroo is the rare protein very few Australian dogs have been exposed to, which means the immune system has had no reason to build sensitivity. The first protein vets reach for during an elimination diet.

02 — Naturally lean

Lower fat than any red meat.

Roo is leaner than beef, lamb, or even chicken thigh — typically under 2% fat in muscle meat. A complete protein source for dogs who can't handle the fat load of richer proteins, including those managing pancreatitis or weight.

03 — Iron-rich

Highest natural iron in the pantry.

Kangaroo carries roughly twice the iron of beef, gram for gram — the most absorbable form of iron a dog can get from food. A genuine top-up for puppies, seniors, pregnant or nursing dogs, and any pup running low on stamina.

04 — Anti-inflammatory profile

Naturally rich in CLA and omega-3s.

Roo carries higher levels of conjugated linoleic acid and omega-3 fatty acids than most red meats — both linked to lower inflammation, better joint health, and improved skin barrier function. A useful daily option for senior dogs and those with chronic inflammation.

Inside the pouch

The nutritional breakdown.

One ingredient on the label means one ingredient in the bag — but that single ingredient is doing a lot of work. Here's what's actually in lean kangaroo, and what each nutrient does for your dog.

Roo Strips.
are perfect for...

Allergy-prone dogs

True novel protein — most Australian dogs have never been exposed, so the immune system has nothing to react to. The protein vets reach for first during an elimination diet.

Lean diets & weight management

The lowest-fat meat protein you can feed a dog — typically under 2% fat. A lean, high-protein option for pups on strict low-fat rotations.

Senior & arthritic dogs

Naturally rich in omega-3s and CLA — both linked to lower inflammation and better joint health. A daily option for dogs slowing down with age.

Working with your vet?

Roo is the protein vets most often recommend for elimination diets and chronic skin issues. If you're running a strict elimination, share the single-ingredient label with your vet — they'll appreciate the simplicity.

How we make it

From fillet to finished pouch.

Every protein in the pantry has its own dehydration profile. Roo is exceptionally lean, which means very little fat to render — but the iron-rich amino acids are heat-sensitive, so we run roo at a lower temperature than the other proteins to protect the nutrient density.

Hand-cut roo on the dehydrator trayLoaded · 65–70°C · 8–10 hours
  1. STEP 01

    Source

Australian-sourced kangaroo, human-grade. Lean muscle meat only — no offcuts, no offal, no “meat meal.”

  2. STEP 02

    Hand-cut

Each cut is sliced thin and lengthwise by hand. Roo's low fat content means uniform thickness is critical — too thick and the inside won't dry, too thin and the strip turns brittle.

  3. STEP 03

    Slow dehydrate

Dried at 65–70°C for 8–10 hours — slightly cooler than our other proteins to protect roo's heat-sensitive iron and amino acids while keeping the dry food-safe.

  4. STEP 04

    Pack fresh

Cooled, weighed and pouched in our Prahran kitchen within hours of dehydration. Sealed without preservatives — fresh batches, never warehoused.

A note on natural variation

Hand-cut, hand-formed, no two pieces alike. Every batch is shaped by hand in our Prahran kitchen, so size, shape and colour will vary slightly from pouch to pouch — and that’s exactly the point. It’s the proof of small-batch.

The source

Australian. Human-grade. Traceable.

Every cut that goes into a Roo Strips pouch is Australian-sourced from human-grade suppliers — the same standard a butcher or restaurant would buy at. Kangaroo is one of the most sustainable proteins on the planet, but only when it comes from properly regulated supply chains.

That choice costs more, but it's non-negotiable. Pet-grade ingredients can include slaughterhouse trim, downed animals and meat unfit for human consumption — all legal in Australia, all common in commercial dog treats. We don't go anywhere near it.
